The Increment

The Increment

David Ignatius

I’ve never been to the Middle East but David Ignatius’ book The Increment made me feel as though I had been there for a long time. From the secret nuclear facility in Tehran, an Iranian scientist ‘Dr Ali’ sends a secret message to the CIA. Back in Washington it was up to CIA director head of Middle East operations, ‘Harry Pappas’ to decide if the message is real. Dr. Ali’s message contained disturbing information about Iran’s weapon capabilities. Harry Pappas tries to stop America from going to war, going against his own government.

The thing I liked most about this book is the image the author puts into my mind. The images switch from a hot dusty city in Iran, to a rainy busy day in Washington DC.

This book by David Ignatius is an action packed thriller, and is perfect for teenagers and adults. The book is very smart and will have you reading to the very end. This story is another one of David Ignatius’s ‘Spy’ books, following the Body of Lies which was later made into a movie. He has been a journalist in the Middle East for more than 15 years, so there is a lot of insider knowledge in the book. The Increment may be fiction, but it is good enough to be real.
